What brings a dead Responder back?

On Beginner, stay in the match and wait for the next 45-second reinforcement interval. The interval is shared. It is not a fresh 45-second countdown added at the moment of each death.

Fixed state

Beginner, mission active, team alive

Result
Pending reinforcement
Trigger or boundary
Next 45-second reinforcement interval
Interval
45 seconds

On Normal, surviving teammates must complete the next main objective. Side-room looting and optional errands do not satisfy that trigger. The active profile has no separate match-wide cap on checkpoint activations, but the mission still has a finite number of main objectives.

Fixed state

Normal, mission active, team alive

Result
Pending objective respawn
Trigger or boundary
Next main objective completion
Checkpoint cap
No separate activation cap

The default call is simple: stay in the match and move toward the stated trigger. On Beginner, wait for the interval. On Normal, living teammates should regroup around the next main objective. The cost is leaving loot behind and asking living players to take the safer route. If that route is temporarily blocked, hold a defensible position rather than splitting the remaining team.

The pending messages support the same distinction. Beginner says, “You will respawn after a short delay.” Normal says, “You will respawn after teammates complete a main objective.” The timer display can show minutes and seconds, but it does not turn the interval into a per-player countdown.

When does death become permanent?

Hard and Nightmare have no automatic respawn profile. A death there produces permanent loss unless an equipped Rescue Beacon applies. This is a difficulty boundary, not a longer wait.

Fixed state

Hard, no Rescue Beacon

Result
Responder and loadout lost
Trigger or boundary
No automatic respawn profile

The game does not state the death result for a whole-team wipe on Beginner or Normal, or a separate result after extraction is called. Do not treat either state as a guarantee of loss or return. If preserving the Responder matters, avoid that unresolved risk. Make the exit choice before this boundary with the Early or Final Extraction guide.

Before taking a risky interaction, check the boundary this page can answer. Hard and Nightmare do not have an automatic respawn profile. Beginner and Normal do. The alternative is to give up the position, regroup, or extract before testing an unresolved team-wipe or extraction-phase outcome.

What does a Rescue Beacon save?

An equipped changes an otherwise permanent death into a rescue. The Responder is kept. The current loadout is lost, and the Beacon is consumed.

Fixed state

Hard, Rescue Beacon equipped

Result
Responder kept, loadout lost
Trigger or boundary
Beacon applies to the permanent-loss result
Beacon
Consumed

The game does not state how an equipped Beacon interacts with a pending Beginner or Normal respawn. Its known result is limited to a Hard or Nightmare permanent loss. Do not assume whether the Beacon is used, skipped, or changes timing in another death state.

Carry one when preserving a developed Responder matters more than preserving the current loadout. The tradeoff is a gear slot spent on protection that may never trigger, followed by the cost of rebuilding the loadout if it does. If the Responder is replaceable and the run needs immediate combat or recovery support, use that slot for the present threat instead. Before risking a developed profile for one more Expert tier, use the finished Responder build guide to make that last upgrade match the next run.

What do leaving and disconnecting prove?

The ordinary leave warning says that leaving without extracting loses the character. Treat that as the safe rule whenever no respawn is pending.

The pending-respawn warning says only that you are awaiting respawn. It does not say that leaving preserves the Responder, and it does not replace the ordinary loss warning with a preservation guarantee. Stay in the match until the respawn completes if keeping the Responder matters.

The disconnect message tells the player to reconnect and deploy again. It does not state whether the interrupted Responder is kept or lost. Do not use that message as proof in either direction. Reconnect when possible, then confirm the Responder roster before committing another loadout.

Does Survival Wave 3 guarantee a final respawn?

Do not plan around a special final-wave respawn. Beginner has the stated interval and Normal has the main-objective trigger. No separate Survival Wave 3 trigger or mapping from the remaining-respawn counter to that final wave is stated.

The safest default is to use the trigger visible for the current death. If the screen shows a timed wait, protect the next interval. If it names a main objective, complete that objective. A generic remaining-points label is not enough to promise when the next point is spent.

The same boundary applies to a future final Objective respawn. No current trigger is stated, so do not delay a rescue or accept a death because an assumed final return might exist.

What should the team do next?

If a respawn is pending, the dead player should stay in the match. Living players should stop optional looting, regroup, and protect the exact trigger: the next Beginner interval or the next Normal main objective.

If the difficulty has no automatic respawn, check for an equipped Beacon. A Beacon keeps the Responder and loses the loadout. Without one, accept the permanent result and prepare another Responder.

The game states no outcome for a whole-team wipe on Beginner or Normal, or for a death after extraction is called. Avoid choosing those states as a recovery plan.

If leaving or a disconnect interrupts the wait, do not claim a protected result until the roster confirms it. The ordinary leave warning proves loss without extraction; the pending and disconnect messages do not prove preservation.

Use the survive, revive, or respawn guide to choose one next action from the live state, team position, run stage, difficulty, and Beacon status. Read the Nightmare difficulty mechanism when incoming damage, ammunition, XP, reduced UI, and the no-respawn result must stay inside one selected profile. Use the mode and difficulty plan before the next run when the selected death risk was wrong. Use the downed and revive mechanism when the Responder has not died yet. Use the zombie threat mechanism to judge how many selected contacts fit before a down. Use the healing mechanism before health reaches zero, and the Medical and rescue skill query for current recovery effects. These rules are current for Hotfix 1.0.4.0 and were checked on September 3, 2026.
