Decide what this run is for

Name one result before opening matchmaking: guided basics, one isolated drill, a full-map rehearsal, Objective progression, or a three-wave Survival defense. Then decide whether the Responder and team can accept periodic respawn, objective-triggered respawn, or no automatic respawn.

That order prevents a reward goal from being sent into Solo Practice and prevents a high-level Responder from entering a no-respawn profile by habit. The mode decides what the run asks you to do. The difficulty decides damage, ammunition, enemy-presence labels, UI support, respawn, and the Difficulty Bonus.

The default for a new public player is Matchmaking, Objective, Beginner after the guided Tutorial. The alternative is Survival, Beginner when the immediate learning goal is the speaker-defense loop. Move to Normal after the team can finish and extract without relying on periodic returns.

Use the first matching mode state

First choose one run goal. If it is Objective or Survival, choose one risk state, then use Matchmaking when fallback is acceptable or Private Match when the exact map and difficulty are required. Training needs take priority over online rewards.

Choose one run goal

You have not completed the controls lesson

Open Tutorial at CRC TRAINING CAMP.

Do not choose an online difficulty yet.

Match
The learning goal is controls, objectives, infection, melee, firearms, or zombie types; the player is not in a party or matchmaking queue.
Why
Learn the basics of gameplay. The current training record has 7 lesson rooms.
Cost or next adjustment
It does not start an online Objective or Survival run. Finish the guided lesson, then return to Prepare.

You need to repeat one mechanic without a run

Open Training Range at CRC TRAINING CAMP.

Do not choose an online difficulty for this drill.

Match
The guided basics are complete, the goal is isolated practice, and no full map route or progression result is needed.
Why
Explore at your own pace.
Cost or next adjustment
A Training Range drill does not answer whether a full Objective or Survival route works. Use Solo Practice for that rehearsal.

You need a full-map rehearsal with no character stake

Choose Solo Practice and one of its 9 online maps.

Read the live match profile; this mode record does not promise a separate difficulty selection.

Match
The player wants to rehearse an Objective or Survival map alone, accepts no progression, and does not want death or quitting to lose the character.
Why
No Credits rewarded in Solo Practice. No experience rewarded in Solo Practice. Additionally, characters will not be lost when dying or quitting.
Cost or next adjustment
Solo Practice does not count towards your Online progression, and does not contribute towards stats or achievements.

Your online goal is map tasks and extraction

Choose Objective, then use one risk state below to set the difficulty and session.

Choose exactly one of the four online risk states below.

Match
The guided basics are complete and the player wants one current Objective map, its live prompts, and extraction.
Why
As a Responder with the CRC, you have to do your part in the fight against the dead. This can involve restoring critical infrastructure and preventing disaster, recovering crucial scientific data, or helping to rescue civilians. Sometimes, it just means getting out alive to fight another day. Complete objectives and extract alive to earn credits and experience.
Cost or next adjustment
Objective has six current maps. Confirm the selected map and live prompt instead of carrying a route from another map into the run.

Your online goal is a three-wave speaker defense

Choose Survival, then use one risk state below to set the difficulty and session.

Choose exactly one of the four online risk states below.

Match
The guided basics are complete and the player wants to prepare and protect one selected zone through all three waves.
Why
This is a fight for humanity's survival. You'll support the Army National Guard as they conduct evacuations of survivors by creating a distraction to lure the zombie hordes away. There are three groups to evacuate, and three waves of the dead to hold off. If you can successfully complete all three waves, you'll earn bonus experience.
Cost or next adjustment
Survival has three current maps. The Normal main-objective respawn label does not separately guarantee a Wave 3 return.

Choose one online risk state

Skip this step for Tutorial, Training Range, or Solo Practice. For Objective or Survival, choose exactly one difficulty below.

You need the lowest current online death pressure

Choose Beginner. Use Matchmaking when fallback is acceptable, or Private Match when the exact map and difficulty are required.

Beginner: 0.65× incoming damage and periodic respawn.

Match
The player is still learning the selected online mode and wants persistent UI aids plus the current periodic respawn profile.
Why
Beginner keeps persistent UI aids on and uses the lowest current incoming zombie damage multiplier.
Cost or next adjustment
Matchmaking preferences are priorities, not guarantees. Confirm the live mode and difficulty before risking a valuable Responder.

You accept the ordinary online risk profile

Choose Normal. Use Matchmaking when fallback is acceptable, or Private Match when the exact map and difficulty are required.

Normal: neutral 1× incoming and outgoing damage, with respawn after main objectives.

Match
The player understands the selected mode, accepts ordinary Responder stake, and does not need Beginner periodic respawn or persistent UI aids.
Why
Normal keeps neutral incoming and outgoing damage multipliers and uses the main-objective respawn profile.
Cost or next adjustment
Found-firearm ammunition already has a 66% minimum field. Bring a small supported Loadout instead of assuming the first gun arrives full.

You accept no automatic respawn but need the regular UI layout

Choose Hard. Use Matchmaking when fallback is acceptable, or Private Match when the exact map and difficulty are required.

Hard: 1.25× incoming damage, persistent UI aids off, Nightmare reduced UI not enabled, and no automatic respawn.

Match
The team accepts permanent-death risk and tighter ammunition fields but does not want the reduced UI used by Nightmare.
Why
Hard does not enable reduced UI, but persistent UI aids are still off. These are separate fields.
Cost or next adjustment
In Private Match, choose Hard explicitly instead of leaving Auto Select active. The record proves control, not a special private-match reward.

You accept the highest current risk and reduced UI

Choose Nightmare. Use Matchmaking when fallback is acceptable, or Private Match when the exact map and difficulty are required.

Nightmare: 1.5× incoming damage, reduced UI, persistent UI aids off, and no automatic respawn.

Match
The team knows the selected mode and accepts reduced UI, permanent-death risk, and the tightest current ammunition fields.
Why
Nightmare applies a 1.5× Difficulty Bonus to Account XP and Character XP while tightening ammunition and enemy-presence fields.
Cost or next adjustment
The Difficulty Bonus does not prove a Credits, Supplies, or item-drop multiplier. Lower the next profile if the team cannot manage without persistent aids.

Every online difficulty can be used with either session path. The difference is certainty: Matchmaking can fall back from both preferences, while Private Match exposes the exact map and difficulty controls.

Know what each mode completes

Objective has six current maps. Its task is to complete the live objectives and extract alive for Credits and experience. Use it when the learning or progression goal is map prompts, interactions, branches, carried Objective Items, and an exit.

Survival has three current maps. Its task is to prepare and protect one selected zone through three waves, then extract after a success. The mode description states bonus experience for completing all three waves. It does not promise a special Wave 3 respawn.

Tutorial and Training Range share CRC TRAINING CAMP. Tutorial is the guided basics path. Training Range is the open practice space with seven current lesson rooms. Neither one is an online Objective or Survival map.

Solo Practice makes all nine online maps available alone. It awards no Credits or experience, does not count toward Online progression, stats, or achievements, and keeps the character after death or quitting. Use it when route knowledge matters more than the next reward.

Open the Maps query to inspect one map’s mode, sessions, image, tasks, and extraction transport. Do not treat the six-map and three-map pools as interchangeable just because Solo Practice can open both.

Choose the risk you will accept

Beginner uses 0.65x incoming zombie damage, stronger player outgoing fields, persistent UI aids, and periodic respawn. It is the safe first online choice when the player is still learning objectives, Survival zones, or team movement.

Normal uses neutral 1x incoming and outgoing damage. Its respawn label is tied to main-objective completions, and its found-firearm minimum is already 66%. It fits ordinary progression once the team can work without Beginner’s periodic return.

Hard raises incoming zombie damage to 1.25x, tightens found-firearm ammunition to 50%-80% and loose boxes to 80%, and has no automatic respawn. It does not enable Nightmare reduced UI, but persistent UI aids are still off. Use it only when the team accepts the permanent-death boundary or carries a Rescue Beacon.

Nightmare raises incoming zombie damage to 1.5x, tightens found-firearm ammunition to 25%-60% and loose boxes to 60%, turns on reduced UI, and has no automatic respawn. Its Difficulty Bonus is 1.5x for Account XP and Character XP. The Nightmare difficulty mechanism gives the fixed 20-to-30 damage case and the exact fields that do not become spawn counts or Credits scaling.

Use only the record shown for the match. Normal and Expert skill names belong to Responder tiers and do not change the match difficulty.

Use Matchmaking or Private Match

Matchmaking prioritizes both the chosen game mode and difficulty preferences. If a match cannot be found in a short time, the game can join any match regardless of the preferred game mode or difficulty. A preference is not a reservation.

Before committing a valuable Responder, confirm the live mode and difficulty. If exact control matters, create a Private Match. All nine online maps belong to the current Private Match pool, and its current Difficulty option says “Select which difficulty to use for this match.” Replace Auto Select when the fixed plan requires Hard or Nightmare.

Private Match map and difficulty control does not by itself prove a special reward rule. Use the selected mode’s published reward text and the live result. Do not assume private play removes Responder loss, adds progression, or duplicates Solo Practice protection.

Recover when the result differs

Recover from the result the game showed

Matchmaking returns another mode

Matchmaking will prioritize your game mode preferences. If a match cannot be found in a short time, you will join any match regardless of game mode. Confirm the live mode before committing the Loadout; use Private Match next time when the exact mode is required.

Matchmaking returns another difficulty

Matchmaking will prioritize your difficulty preferences. If a match cannot be found in a short time, you will join any match regardless of difficulty. Read the live profile and reduce the Responder stake when the returned risk is not the one planned.

Private Match still shows Auto Select

Open Difficulty, replace Auto Select with the intended profile, and confirm it before starting.

Solo Practice gave no progression

Solo Practice does not count towards your Online progression, and does not contribute towards stats or achievements. Repeat the successful route in Matchmaking or a chosen Private Match only when the team is ready to accept the online result.

Damage or ammunition pressure ended the run

Keep the mode goal, lower the difficulty for the next attempt, and change only the Loadout or first skill that addresses the named failure.

The death risk was unacceptable

Do not reuse Hard or Nightmare by habit. Lower the next profile, use a lower-stake Responder, or equip a Rescue Beacon before committing again.

When a matchmaking fallback returns a different mode or difficulty, do not carry the old plan forward invisibly. Read the live record, lower the Loadout stake if needed, and follow the objective the game actually shows. If the exact setup is essential, use Private Match on the next attempt.

When the team fails for one named reason, change one layer. Lower difficulty when the accepted damage, UI, ammunition, or death risk was wrong. Change the mode when the run goal was wrong. Change the Loadout or first skill when the mode and risk were right but the chosen support failed.

The death and respawn mechanism covers periodic, main-objective, no-respawn, and Rescue Beacon outcomes. The speaker-defense plan covers the selected zone and warning after Survival begins.

Prepare the next Loadout and skill

After the mode and difficulty are fixed, choose a small supported Loadout. Beginner can forgive more early mistakes, but a mismatched firearm still wastes space. Normal already reduces the minimum found-firearm ammunition field. Hard and Nightmare make unsupported ammunition and permanent-death stake part of the first decision.

Use the starter Loadout and first skill guide for one Ready-slot plan tied to the next online mode. Use the finished Responder build guide only when a leveled Responder already has the matching Normal skill and the next Expert Upgrade is available.

The run choice is complete when the player can name the mode goal, the live difficulty, the session type, the Responder stake, and the first failure the Loadout must cover. It is not complete merely because a preference is selected.

The game does not promise that matchmaking will preserve either preference, that Private Match changes reward eligibility, that Solo Practice contributes to progression, or that a generic Normal respawn label guarantees a Survival Wave 3 return.

These decisions apply to Hotfix 1.0.4.0. The game facts were checked on September 3, 2026.
