How do you pick one card?
Start with the state shown by the game: alive, downed, or dead. Do not skip ahead because you expect the state to change. Healing belongs to an alive Responder. A teammate revive or belongs to a downed Responder. Respawn and belong to a dead Responder.
Then match the team and run stage. A separated living player should regroup before optional contact. A downed player needs either a reachable helper or a held Syringe. A dead player must first rule out two uncertain states: death after extraction has been called, and a whole-team wipe on Beginner or Normal. Neither state has a stated result here, so neither is a dependable rescue route.
Within the dead group, use difficulty last. Beginner uses a 45-second reinforcement interval. Normal waits for a main objective. Hard and Nightmare have no automatic respawn. Beacon status matters on Hard and Nightmare, where death would otherwise be permanent. What the Beacon does during a pending Beginner or Normal respawn is unknown.
Every card gives one next action, the condition that makes it fit, and the cost or alternative. Read the first exact match in this order: extraction-phase boundary, team-wipe boundary, then the ordinary difficulty result. The cards are separate situations, not steps to perform in sequence.
What if you are still alive?
An alive player can still prevent the revive problem. Healthy and regrouped means continue the active objective with the squad. Healthy and separated means stop widening the route and regroup. Damage changes the immediate need, but it does not turn a health item into an answer for infection or a future downed state.
Alive states
Healthy, regrouped, mission still active
Continue the active objective with the squad.
- Match
- You are alive, the squad is together, and no health failure needs an item.
- Why
- There is no recovery problem to solve, and staying together keeps the next rescue reachable.
- Cost or alternative
- You leave optional loot or contact behind. If the team separates, switch to the separated card immediately.
Healthy, separated, mission still active
Stop optional fighting and looting, then move to regroup.
- Match
- You are alive and healthy, but the living squad is on another route.
- Why
- Health alone does not make a later revive reachable. The team-position problem comes first.
- Cost or alternative
- Regrouping can leave useful loot behind. Take only a route-side item that does not widen the separation.
Damaged, matching recovery held
Break contact, use the held health item, then regroup before resuming the objective.
- Match
- You are alive, missing health, and hold Bandages or a Medkit.
- Why
- Healing applies only while alive. A downed or dead Responder belongs in a later group.
- Cost or alternative
- Using the item now spends recovery that could cover later damage. Wait only when the current position is already safe and the missing health is acceptable.
Damaged, no recovery, Early Extraction available
Use “Activate Early Extraction” when the exit is reachable and preserving the run matters more than continuing it.
- Match
- You are alive, the recovery gap is open, and the HUD says “Early Extraction Available.”
- Why
- Early Extraction is a run exit, not healing. It removes the need to survive the unfinished route.
- Cost or alternative
- No Credits rewarded for Early Extraction. If the exit is not reachable, stay with living teammates and search only for matching recovery on their route.
Damaged, no recovery, Early Extraction unavailable
Regroup and look for matching health recovery on the active route.
- Match
- You are alive, the recovery gap is open, and the exit says “Cannot Abandon.”
- Why
- An unavailable exit is not a fallback you can activate, and abandoning the match is covered by a separate loss warning.
- Cost or alternative
- The safer route can delay the objective. Do not split from the squad for a wider search unless the live route leaves no other recovery path.
Use or a only for missing health. The healing mechanism gives their exact amounts and health-cap waste. If infection is active, switch to the infection treatment task because Pills delay infection and Gene Therapy cures it; ordinary healing does neither.
Before crossing another room, check the next likely hit against one selected zombie. The zombie threat mechanism shows a Walker Basic case without turning health, stability, Grab, armor, and difficulty into one score. The Zombies query gives the individual attack and range fields when the threat is different.
What if you are downed?
The base downed state has two limits: 35 seconds and 2,500 downed health. Time elapsed reduces one. Damage taken while downed reduces the other. Do not add them together, and do not treat a positive remainder as a promise that a teammate can cross the room and finish the interaction.
Downed states
Downed, a teammate can reach you
Start the teammate revive now.
- Match
- You are still downed, both limits remain above zero, and another Responder can reach the interaction.
- Why
- Without Limbo, the full limits begin at 35 seconds and 2,500 downed health. Waiting and incoming damage spend different limits.
- Cost or alternative
- The helper commits attention at the body. If that route is blocked, protect the approach rather than treating the remaining numbers as a promised completion margin.
Downed, no helper reachable, Revive Syringe held
Use the Revive Syringe for automatic recovery.
- Match
- You are still downed, no teammate can complete the interaction, and the Syringe is available.
- Why
- A recovery from 100 maximum health returns 30 health and grants 5 seconds of damage immunity.
- Cost or alternative
- The Syringe is consumed. Preserve it only when a teammate can complete the ordinary revive before either downed limit ends.
Downed, no helper reachable, no Revive Syringe
Keep the body route as clear as possible while the living team decides whether it can reach you.
- Match
- You are downed, both limits remain above zero, but neither recovery path is currently available.
- Why
- A positive time or health remainder proves only that the matching limit has not ended. It does not prove travel time, enemy behavior, or a completed revive.
- Cost or alternative
- A rescue attempt can expose another Responder. If the team cannot reach the interaction, accept the live transition and use the matching dead-state card.
A downed limit has ended
Stop using the downed calculation and read the dead-state group.
- Match
- The time limit or downed-health limit no longer remains positive.
- Why
- The two limits are separate, and either can end the useful revive window.
- Cost or alternative
- Do not promise a last-frame interaction, retained progress, or an animation grace period. Follow the state the game now shows.
Use the ordinary teammate revive when a helper can reach the interaction while both limits remain. A held Revive Syringe is the fallback when no helper can complete it. It is consumed to recover automatically, so preserving it has value only when the ordinary revive is genuinely available.
Recovery returns 30% of maximum health and grants 5 seconds of damage immunity. Use that short protected window to leave the body position and regroup. It is not full healing and does not make the next route safe. Open the downed and revive mechanism for Limbo, Stayin’ Alive, the fixed remaining-budget case, and the interruption boundary.
What if you are dead?
Once the game shows death, stop subtracting from the downed limits. First check whether extraction has already been called. Next check whether the whole Beginner or Normal team is dead. Those two cases do not have a stated outcome here. Stay in the match for the live result rather than quitting on an assumption.
Dead states
Dead after extraction has been called
Stay in the match and follow the result shown by the game.
- Match
- Use this before every difficulty card when death happens in the extraction phase.
- Why
- A separate result for death in the extraction phase is not stated.
- Cost or alternative
- Do not promise a return or permanent loss from the difficulty profile alone. The alternative is to avoid using an extraction-phase death as a recovery plan.
Beginner or Normal, whole team dead
Stay for the live match result instead of quitting on an assumed outcome.
- Match
- Use this before the ordinary Beginner or Normal card when no teammate remains alive.
- Why
- The Beginner and Normal profiles do not establish what a whole-team wipe does.
- Cost or alternative
- No return can be promised. Before a wipe, the safer alternative is to abandon the position, regroup, or use an available Early Extraction while someone is still alive.
Beginner, teammate alive, extraction not called
Continue spectating and wait for the next 45-second reinforcement interval.
- Match
- You are dead, at least one teammate remains active, and the run is outside the two boundary cards above.
- Why
- Beginner uses a repeating interval trigger.
- Cost or alternative
- Leaving early risks the separate leave-without-extraction warning. The living team should keep the mission alive instead of treating your death as a reason to split.
Normal, teammate alive, another main objective remains
Continue spectating while the team completes that main objective.
- Match
- You are dead before extraction and the living team can still complete the next main objective.
- Why
- Normal uses main-objective completion as its respawn trigger and has no separate activation cap.
- Cost or alternative
- The team may need to leave optional loot and side contact behind. A minor interaction is not a substitute for the main-objective trigger.
Normal, no later main objective remains
Keep spectating until the game resolves the state, but do not plan on a special final return.
- Match
- You are dead, extraction has not yet been called, and the run offers no later main objective that this guide can verify.
- Why
- No separate final Objective or Survival Wave 3 trigger is established here.
- Cost or alternative
- No respawn is stated. The safer earlier alternative is to revive before death or use an available exit while alive.
Hard or Nightmare, Rescue Beacon equipped
Accept the Beacon rescue result: keep the Responder and lose the loadout.
- Match
- You are dead before extraction, the difficulty has no automatic respawn, and the Beacon applies to permanent loss.
- Why
- The Beacon is consumed when it protects the Responder from that permanent result.
- Cost or alternative
- Equipped items are not preserved. Without a Beacon, use the permanent-loss card instead.
Hard or Nightmare, no Rescue Beacon
Accept the permanent result and prepare another Responder.
- Match
- You are dead before extraction and the difficulty has no automatic respawn profile.
- Why
- Hard and Nightmare do not turn this state into a longer wait.
- Cost or alternative
- The Responder and loadout are lost. The alternative existed before death: retreat, regroup, revive while downed, or take an available Early Extraction.
Outside those two boundaries, keep spectating while the trigger remains possible. Beginner waits for the next 45-second interval. Normal waits for the next main-objective completion. A minor interaction, optional loot stop, or assumed final-wave event does not replace that trigger.
Hard and Nightmare are different: they have no automatic respawn profile. If an equipped Beacon applies to that permanent loss, the Beacon is consumed, the Responder is kept, and the loadout is lost. Without the Beacon, the Responder and loadout are lost. The death and respawn mechanism carries the full leave, disconnect, pending-respawn, team-wipe, and extraction-phase boundaries.
When should you use Early Extraction?
Treat Early Extraction as an alive run fallback, not as healing, a revive, or a respawn. Use it when the HUD says “Early Extraction Available,” the exit is reachable, and continuing the unfinished route risks a Responder you would rather preserve. The activation text is “Activate Early Extraction.”
The known cost is exact: No Credits rewarded for Early Extraction. No Early Extraction result is stated when the exit says “Cannot Abandon,” after the Responder is already downed or dead, or after another extraction has been called. Those are not reasons to leave the match through the menu.
If the squad is separated, name the exit and regroup before committing when the route allows it. If recovery is still possible, healing or a revive can preserve the mission and its remaining rewards. If recovery is not available and the exit already works, Early Extraction can end the run before the next contact. Use the Early or Final Extraction guide for the full choice; this page uses only the part needed to escape a failing survival state.
What can the team do after recovery fails?
If the ordinary revive stops, check the state shown by the game. If the player is still downed, another attempt can begin, but every elapsed second and later hit can reduce a separate limit. Do not count unseen interaction progress or an animation grace period. If the player is dead, move immediately to the matching dead card.
If a Normal player is waiting, living teammates should stop optional scavenging and complete the next main objective. If a Beginner player is waiting, keep the run alive until the next interval. Continue spectating in both cases; the pending-respawn warning does not promise that leaving preserves the Responder. During Survival, use the speaker-defense plan for the live action without inventing a special Wave 3 respawn result.
If the difficulty has no automatic respawn, do not wait for a timer that does not exist. When an equipped Beacon applies to that permanent death, keep the Responder and lose the loadout; otherwise accept the loss and prepare another Responder. On the next run, reduce the loadout stake, carry a Beacon, stay closer to the team, or take the available exit earlier. These alternatives change the next decision after recovery has ended.
When a whole team wipes on Beginner or Normal, or death happens after extraction is called, the honest answer is narrower. Stay for the live outcome. Do not tell the squad that a return is guaranteed, and do not tell them permanent loss is guaranteed. The safer decision existed before that boundary: regroup, revive, or extract while at least one of those actions remained.
What should you do next?
After an alive recovery, rebuild the survival floor: one working attack, matching recovery for the current risk, and a route back to the squad. The Inventory query exposes weapon, ammunition, Medical, and Rescue Beacon details. The downed and revive mechanism covers the Revive Syringe. The Skills query shows Limbo and Stayin’ Alive without treating either tier as a second copy of the other.
After a revive, leave the body position during the five-second protection window, then heal from the returned 30% of maximum health when a matching item is available. After a pending respawn, regroup before optional loot. After a permanent loss, set the next Responder’s risk before rebuilding the loadout.
The task is complete when every living player has a reachable squad route and the recovered player has left the failed contact. It is not complete merely because a timer is positive or a respawn message is visible. Use one live state, one action, and one fallback. Re-read the cards only when the game changes that state.
These decisions apply to Hotfix 1.0.4.0. The game facts were checked on September 3, 2026.
