Start with the next run
Name one failure before changing the build. Is the next run asking you to revive teammates, stretch health items, absorb repeated attacks, preserve a stamina reserve, fit one required item, or land handgun headshots? Upgrade the family that answers that job. A skill that is strong somewhere else is not the final choice for this run.
The default is simple: keep the assigned Normal tier until its matching Expert Upgrade is both available and useful. Then apply the Expert result once. The cost is the current Upgrade cost and every field on the Expert tier. The alternative is to keep the Normal tier and queue with the build that already works.
Use the Skills query to open the actual assigned family and its Expert record. The query shows all 47 current families, 94 tier records, exact effects, and the requirement for each offer.
Match one final Upgrade
Choose the one card that matches the job, assigned Normal family, and offer currently on screen. These cards are separate situations. Do not combine their answers into one build.
Match one final Upgrade to the next run
Objective squad, revives decide the run
Upgrade to Stayin' Alive - Expert.
- Use this card when
- You play co-op Objective, stay near the squad, and already have Stayin' Alive Normal assigned. The matching Upgrade is available.
- Why
- Its revive interaction speed 2x (+100%) cuts the same revive interaction to 50% of its baseline duration.
- Cost or alternative
- It changes reviving another Responder, not your damage, health, stamina, or self-recovery. Keep the Normal tier when revives are not the job this slot needs to do.
Recovery role, health items are the bottleneck
Upgrade to Skilled Medic - Expert.
- Use this card when
- You already have Skilled Medic Normal assigned, regularly use Bandages or Medkits, and the matching Upgrade is available.
- Why
- Its current effect is healing output 2x (+100%). The health cap still applies, so excess healing can be lost.
- Cost or alternative
- It does not speed up revives or treat infection. Keep the Normal tier when the extra healing would mostly hit the cap, or use Stayin' Alive in another eligible slot when revive speed is the real failure.
Survival hold, repeated attack damage ends the wave
Upgrade to Sturdy Body - Expert.
- Use this card when
- You already have Sturdy Body Normal assigned, repeated zombie attacks are the named failure, and the matching Upgrade is available.
- Why
- It adds attack damage mitigation +20 percentage points against attacks.
- Cost or alternative
- It does not add maximum health, stamina, or carrying capacity. Keep the Normal tier when stamina or route movement ends the hold first.
Long route, running drain breaks the reserve
Upgrade to Marathon Runner - Expert.
- Use this card when
- You already have Marathon Runner Normal assigned, running drains the reserve before the next action, and the matching Upgrade is available.
- Why
- Its running stamina drain 0.7x (-30%) leaves running at 70% of the base drain rate.
- Cost or alternative
- It does not reduce Melee costs or restore stamina while running. Keep the Normal tier when incoming damage or a different action is the real limit.
Carry role, one needed item does not fit
Upgrade to Mule - Expert.
- Use this card when
- You already have Mule Normal assigned, the next required item fails the capacity check, and the matching Upgrade is available.
- Why
- Its active effects are inventory capacity +2 kg and maximum health 0.95x (-5%). Expert replaces the Normal tier rather than adding to it.
- Cost or alternative
- Maximum health remains below its base value. Keep the Normal tier and remove an unsupported item when the Expert capacity result is not worth that health condition.
Handgun build, headshots are the repeated action
Upgrade to Headblown - Expert.
- Use this card when
- You already have Headblown Normal assigned, the next run uses a handgun, and headshots are the damage result you rely on.
- Why
- Its current effect is quick headshot damage 1.3x (+30%).
- Cost or alternative
- It does not raise body-shot damage or another weapon class. Keep the Normal tier when the planned run cannot satisfy both the handgun and headshot conditions.
Stop when the slot has no matching action
The matching Expert tier is already assigned
Keep it and stop changing this slot when its effect still solves the named failure in the next run. A finished slot does not need another upgrade action.
If the run goal changed, adjust a different Ready slot or the loadout first. The game gives no extra tier above the current Expert record.
The matching Upgrade is not available
Keep the assigned tier and choose only from the offers on screen. An Expert offer requires its matching Normal tier, plus the current Upgrade availability and cost.
Do not plan around an Expert result that is not offered. Continue with the current build, then check the slot again after the next run.
For a co-op Objective support role, is the default only when reaching downed teammates is part of the plan. For a Survival hold where repeated attacks are the named failure, answers a different problem. Neither record promises that its matching offer will appear.
Apply Expert once
Expert replaces Normal within the same family. Do not add both tiers. A 2x revive interaction speed means the same interaction takes 50% of its baseline duration; it is not 1.5x Normal plus 2x Expert. Mule Expert supplies +2 kg capacity and 0.95x maximum health as its active pair of effects; its Normal effects are no longer added.
Different families can affect the same stat only when each family is actually assigned. Do not combine these six Upgrade cards into one build. Use how Responder skill modifiers work when two active families touch the same field or when a speed value needs a duration conversion.
Read every cost before accepting the Upgrade. Headblown Expert applies 1.3x handgun headshot damage, not body-shot damage. Marathon Runner Expert changes running drain, not Melee costs. Skilled Medic Expert changes healing output, but the health cap can still waste part of an item.
Protect a leveled Responder
A late build increases what can be lost, but it does not change the skill math. Hard and Nightmare have no automatic respawn profile. If permanent loss is unacceptable, reduce the run risk before queuing or equip a when its loadout cost is acceptable.
The Beacon protects the Responder from an otherwise permanent result and is consumed. It does not preserve the loadout. Do not use Beacon protection as a reason to accept an Expert upgrade that does not fit the next run.
If the next run is for learning a route, Solo Practice does not award Credits or experience and does not count toward Online progression. Test the current build there, but choose the final Upgrade for the next online Objective or Survival run.
Recover from a missing offer
An Expert offer requires the matching Normal tier to be assigned. Upgrade availability and cost still apply. If the matching Upgrade is absent, the correct action is to keep the current tier and choose only from the offers on screen. Do not replace a useful slot to imitate a finished build from another Responder.
If the named failure changed, adjust one layer. Change the next skill choice when the effect is wrong. Change the loadout when ammunition, recovery, or capacity is wrong. Change the mode or difficulty when the accepted death risk is wrong. Keeping the other layers steady makes the next result readable.
The starter loadout and first skill guide covers a Ready slot and a new Responder. The death and respawn mechanism covers the current difficulty and Rescue Beacon outcomes for a leveled Responder.
Lock the build and queue
Stop changing the slot when its current effect solves the named failure, every cost is acceptable, and the next run can satisfy the effect’s trigger. Open the Expert record once more, confirm its weapon, action, item, or team condition, then queue.
If the run goal changes later, change the next decision rather than rewriting the whole build at once. The game gives no universal best final skill, guaranteed offer order, future Upgrade price, or tier above the current Expert record.
These choices apply to Hotfix 1.0.4.0. The game facts were checked on September 3, 2026.
